Which Virtual Learning Mom are You?

Some call it homeschooling. Others call it virtual learning. And a few others may refer to it as a “hot-mess attempt at saving our kids from repeating their current grade” (or is that just me?).

Regardless of what you call it, many of us have been thrust onto this homeschool-boat in some shape or form. Some confident parents have grabbed the wheel and floated to safe-seas; while others are violently rocking in the waves, about to tip over the railing.

Personally, my kid’s school is doing a fantastic job communicating to families and supporting our children; however, even the most innovative, well-thought-out plans can’t eliminate all obstacles.

Which Virtual Learning Mom do You Relate to?

If anything is for certain, it is that you are not alone- no matter how you feel about your current situation.

The question is, which mom do you relate to?

Loving-it Louise

“Louise” has always been interested in homeschooling, so this was the perfect time to jump in.

She sets up a cute little in-home classroom, and has her kids call her “Mrs. Mom”. She wakes up early, and greets her kids with a smile and cute pinterest-inspired lessons plans.

Getting-by Gertrude

“Gertrude” feels that this is a little stressful, but she is surprisingly making it work. In fact, she may even enjoy the new life slow down.

She admits to friends and family that it is a difficult life change, but she chugs her coffee and handles it like a champ.

Overwhelmed Olive

“Olive” is not enjoying this. She feels like if it goes on any longer, her sanity may slip away.

She only has the energy and time to help her kids with the mandatory work- no “extra” practice or art crafts for her little ones. She struggles to keep up with the school emails and needs friends to remind her what is gong on at all times.

Inappropriate Ingrid

“Ingrid” loves her children deeply, don’t get her wrong; however she is not cut out for virtual learning.

Lucky for Ingrid, her kid’s zoom calls are often muted. She can’t filter the swears words leaving her mouth when technology malfunctions or she can’t figure out an assignment. Wine is her friend.

Final Thoughts

No matter which type of “virtual learning” mom you relate to, we are all together in this crazy world!

I guess I fall into the Gertrude category. We are getting by just fine. It definitely helps that I work from home on a very flexible schedule:)

Hahah I love this! Honestly, I would believe myself to be somewhere in between a Gertrude and Overwhelmed Olive.

I did virtual learning with my oldest 5 years ago (you know... before it was cool🤣) and only lasted about 2 years. It was our bridge from traditional brick and mortar schooling to homeschooling. I’d say I was Getting-by Gertrudez we did what we had to do but the program we were in was horrible and ultimately I ended up hating it. And so did my daughter. Virtual learning is hard! And if you aren’t in a good program or have good teachers it can make it even more difficult. Good luck with virtual learning this year. I wish everyone doing it the best of luck.

I think you missed a category of virtual learning mom. You forgot the "sit here and get it done because you lied and said you did it. Until I checked your grades to find out you were missing 23 assignments and your mom didn't realize you were lying to her as well. so you are in trouble." Kind of virtual learning stepmom. Becuase thats me. I am that stepmom. Hope that sums it up for ya! lol
