You Know You’re a Low-Maintenance Mom if…

I was never very lady-like to begin with; however when I had kids, any shred of feminine behavior went out the door. I consider myself a Poster-child for all low-maintenance moms out there. In fact, I am borderline ‘hot mess’ status, but who’s judging.

You know you’re a low-maintenance mom if you can relate to these 10 things:

1) Your self-care routine looks like this:

Just kidding! You don’t have a self-care routine. The closest thing you get to a self-care routine is getting a chance to pee without a kid coming into the bathroom.

2) Everyone in your house is probably wearing two different socks

Including yourself. You tell yourself that some day you will have matching socks, but not today, my friend. You’ve accepted that matching socks are a pipedream at this point in your life.

3) You consider baby wipes a back-up method for showering

Your pre-kid-self would have been absolutely disgusted, but showers are not so easy to come by for some moms. If you have wiped your armpits down with a baby wipe before leaving the house, you may be a low maintenance mom.

4) Make-up is NOT your forte

You feel like a clown in foundation. you get more mascara on your hands than your eyelashes, and you feel like a cheap escort in lipstick.

It doesn’t matter if you are at a grocery store or a wedding, you do your make-up the exact same. You awkwardly put blush on your cheeks as you wonder if it is too much or too little. You drag some eye-liner across your eyes, and you head out the door.

5) Your kids have been spotted wearing ridiculous outfits in public

As a mom, you have to pick your battles. As a low maintenance mom, your kid’s attire is NEVER a battle you care to fight. I recall my daughter wearing a Christmas dress in July, and my son wearing a full Dinosaur costume to daycare. Army pants, with dress shoes, a bike helmet, and a Spiderman mask to go to the grocery store? Rock it, kid!

6) Wearing heels feels like physical punishment

It takes all of your mental energy to walk in heels. You kick them off the very moment you have a chance.

If you have to wear a dress, you prefer a long dress so that you can hide your Toms, Crocs, or flats under the long material.

7) Your idea of Date Night is little unconventional

You and your husband consider it a ‘date night’ if you can somehow get your kids to bed before 9:30 and you can share a quick cocktail while you watch House Hunters on HGTV.

Actually, sometimes “date night” is even sitting on the porch and chatting while your kids are playing a game of hide and seek outside.

8) When you wear jeans, everyone knows you have somewhere to be

Comfort is key for low maintenance moms. When I am going anywhere, I first think about what other women are going to be wearing. Then, I think how I can take it down a few notches and still be comfortable.

Your friends are flattered if you put on jeans to see them.

9) You take each day at a time

You see other moms who have vision boards, long-term goals, and planners. I bought a planner last year. A week after the purchase, it was just another coloring book for my kids.

You realized that it would be great if you could have everything planned out and organized, but you feel more like the Just-wing-it method works best for you.

10) As long as your kids are happy, your heart feels full

Your kids may not have the cutest outfits, they might be overdue for haircuts, and they might be playing outside barefoot; however, one thing is for sure. Your love for them is your top priority, and they can feel it with every bone in their body.

Final Thoughts

Your house is full of laughter and love. You are not stressed out by a little mess, and your kids are rich with experiences.

Just because you don’t have it all together, doesn’t mean you can’t still have it all!

I see I'm a little late to the party but just oh. my. gosh. Every. single. one. of. these!!! You had me laughing and crying at the same time from the relatability of it all! Makeup, in my mind, fits best into the category of 'arts and crafts'. And when I put jeans on, my toddler snaps to attention: "we're going to CHURCH mommy??!!" My husband says "my honey, you're certainly in a terrific mood, what's the good news?" Me: "today i got to PEE ALONE!!! (Well almost; not all of the kids were there)"

This is so me. I try not to sweat the small stuff and it eliminates toddler tantrums. Thanks!
